Trade Application Notes

British Standard 5252 08 C 39 forms part of our British Standard BS 5252 Paint Colour Chart. Each order is mixed fresh using Lechler binders and colourants so that aerosols, tins and touch up products can be reordered later with confidence for snagging, repairs and small additions.

  • Formats: 400 ml aerosols are available in 1K (ready to use), full 2K, and 2K Air Dry. 2K Air Dry is designed to give a two pack style upgrade on durability while usually sitting at a lower price point than traditional 2K, which makes it a popular option for regular contract work. We also offer 1 litre tins, touch up pots and touch up pens.
  • Finishes: Choose from matt, satin, semi gloss or full gloss so you can follow an existing scheme or match a client specification and cleaning regime.
  • Surface preparation: For best results, degrease thoroughly, lightly abrade to a uniform key and remove dust and loose material. Please select a primer that is appropriate for the substrate and service conditions.
  • Masking and protection: We recommend masking nearby glass, brickwork, signs and ground finishes, and using simple sheeting where needed. This keeps overspray under control and helps with handover on live sites.
  • Application control: The vari nozzle cap can be set to a wide or narrow fan pattern to suit the area you are working on. This gives better control on edges, corners and detail work.
  • Managing overspray: On exterior projects it helps to think about wind direction and how people move through the space. Temporary screens and a clearly marked working zone can make application smoother and more relaxed.
  • Weather window: Apply only to clean, dry substrates. Avoid times where rain, heavy dew or condensation are likely. Please follow the temperature and humidity guidance set out in the technical data sheet.
  • Recoat and curing: Several light coats with the recommended flash off time normally give a more even finish than one heavy pass. Allow the coating to cure fully before exposing it to aggressive cleaning or impact.
  • 2K and 2K Air Dry products: These are professional coatings and should be used with suitable PPE and good ventilation. Mix carefully, respect pot life and dispose of any remaining material responsibly. In many cases, 2K Air Dry is chosen as the day to day option for improved durability where full 2K is not required on every job.
  • Equipment: Aerosols usually perform best when kept at room temperature and shaken well before and during use. Tinned product can be applied using compliant spray equipment or with a fine foam roller and a small brush for edges.
  • Coverage and appearance: Aim for smooth, overlapping passes and build the film gradually. This helps to avoid runs and dry spray, and supports a more consistent sheen across the whole area.
  • Aftercare: Try to protect freshly coated surfaces from tape pull, knocks and high pressure cleaning until the coating has had time to harden. Mild cleaning solutions are usually enough for routine maintenance.
  • Repeat orders: Batch details can be recorded so that top ups and follow on work can be supplied back to the same colour and finish, helping return visits feel straightforward for both you and your client.

Combined with the correct primer, this system can be suitable for many common substrates such as metal, correctly prepared plastics and timber. The goal is a smooth, dependable finish with sound adhesion and stable colour under normal service conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

1K Aerosol paint takes around 30 minutes to cure completely.

The time it takes for a 2K aerosol to touch dry in 40 minutes. To dry out thoroughly is 24-48 hours depending on the conditions the paint is used in, for example, it will take longer to fully cure if applied outside in colder or damper conditions as opposed to a hot summer's day.

You can expect to be able to coat roughly 2 square meters in a single coat using a 400ml aerosol.

For best results, we recommend 2-4 coats depending on the colour chosen, existing colour to be re top coated and surface material to be sprayed.

We highly recommend the use of a primer for almost all your painting plans, we stock and supply the correct primers necessary for the surface material, example glass primers, fibreglass primers and plastic primers. When choosing a primer, it is essential to select the proper primer for the surface material you plan to apply the topcoat.

Please note: our paint is custom mixed and should be test-sprayed on a small, inconspicuous area before full application. We cannot accept responsibility for any colour difference once paint has been applied to your surfaces. If the colour is not accurate, please contact us to arrange a return.
